"LISTEN FOR THE ART OF IT" Programs

This series consists of one winter concert and one summer concert with related workshops.  It features musicians who are top in their field in both performing and creating. These artists will give a performance on Sunday afternoon and a workshop the following Saturday morning.  The Concerts are from 5-7 and will be in the community hall in the winter and outside at the pavilion in the summer – both workshops will be held 10am-2pm at the community hall.

The second in our “Listen for the Art of it” Series Features The Tequila Mocking birds. They were voted the capital regions Best Acoustic Duo in Metro- land Magazine 2007-2008.  Comprised of George Fletcher and Peter Pashoukos, they perform artistic arrangements of instrumental blues jazz, gypsy swing and originals.  Listening to The Tequila Mockingbirds is a transforming experience, while the music may seem almost furious at times; the result is being filled with a true restful peace - rare indeed!  Their interaction as guitarists and their intuitive musical changes are sought after by all serious musicians. If you are a working musician or just want to the key to unlocking improvisational skills on your instrument - you will definitely want to attend this workshop and find out “how they do it”! The concert is free with a “good will donation”.

August 20th Workshop 10am-2pm “Creating Your Own Sound” -The art of Improvisation with Tequila Mockingbirds' George Fletcher and Peter Pashoukos  at the Day Town Hall, 1650 North Shore Road, Hadley, NY.

This workshop will be of interest to guitarists and to other musicians interested in the “art of improvisation.  Although it will be taught on guitar, it will have application to mandolin, fiddle, banjo, bass guitar and more.  Bring your instrument! The workshop will be from 10am-2pm. The cost is $25 and includes lunch.  After lunch there will be a Q&A and time for performance/critique.   The Tequila Mockingbirds have definitely mastered their techniques and are willing to share! Scholarship information:

SVAN is making available three partial or full scholarships to be determined by financial and artistic need. Those wishing to participate in the scholarship program will be asked write a paragraph explaining financial need, artistic desire and to describe the value they feel the workshop will provide for them. They will need to submit them with their contact information to SVAN ATTN Michele PO Box 660 Northville, NY 12134. They will be due prior to the registration deadline. There will be a limited number of participants set by the workshop artists.  Scholarships will be awarded on a first come first serve basis. More info (518) 924-3008
